Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Arjan Meijer, Chief Executive Officer of Embraer Commercial Aviation, on Monday (February 2) to exchange views on recent developments in the global aviation industry.
Embraer, a multinational aerospace company based in Brazil, is widely regarded as the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer, producing both commercial and military aircraft.
President Prabowo received the Embraer CEO at the Merdeka Palace, accompanied by State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi, as well as executives from national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and state-owned defense company PT Pindad.
The meeting took place after the president chaired the 2026 National Coordination Meeting of Central and Regional Governments in Bogor, West Java.
In a press release cited here on Tuesday, the discussion also covered progress in Indonesia’s aviation ecosystem and opportunities for adopting new technologies, particularly in aircraft development.
“During the meeting, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia, through its national airlines, must be able to keep pace with and adapt to global technological advancements,” the secretariat said.
Speaking after the meeting, Garuda Indonesia President Director Glenny H. Kairupan said the president highlighted the importance of Indonesia’s aviation industry playing a meaningful role in global developments.
“We discussed Garuda Indonesia as well as the rapid advancement of aircraft technology. The President wants Indonesia to be involved in the development of advanced technologies,” Kairupan told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex.
However, Kairupan clarified that there are currently no plans to procure new commercial or military aircraft from Embraer, noting that the discussions focused solely on technological coordination.
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) has long cooperated with Embraer, as reflected in its operation of the EMB-314 Super Tucano turboprop counter-insurgency aircraft built by the corporation.
Dozens of the aircraft remain stationed with Squadron 21 at Abdulrahman Saleh Air Base in Malang, East Java, and are actively used in various missions, including training exercises.
