Jakarta (ANTARA) -
Several disaster-hit districts and cities across Indonesia’s Sumatra have entered a transitional emergency phase toward recovery as response efforts progress, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said on Friday.
“Some districts and cities have entered the transition phase, while others have extended emergency status in line with conditions on the ground,” Pratikno told a news conference in Jakarta.
Areas moving into the transition phase include Aceh Tenggara District, Subulussalam, Aceh Besar District, Padangsidimpuan, Padang Panjang and Mandailing Natal District, signaling a shift from emergency response to recovery and rebuilding.
The transition phase includes the rollout of temporary and permanent housing, known locally as Huntara and Huntap, covering beneficiary data verification, land preparation and early-stage construction through cross-agency coordination.
In Aceh Province, Lhokseumawe has decided to proceed directly with permanent housing, while Pidie District has started building temporary shelters, with completion targeted as soon as possible, Pratikno said.
In North Sumatra Province, Sibolga has also moved straight to permanent housing, with construction under way at several locations and authorities seeking to accelerate completion.
In West Sumatra Province, temporary shelters are being built in Pesisir Selatan District, Padang Pariaman District and Agam District, with projects expected to be completed within weeks to support faster recovery.
Pratikno said housing development is being accelerated alongside the construction of supporting infrastructure to help affected residents resume normal activities, underscoring strong government coordination and public solidarity as key to a resilient recovery.
“We are seeing strong collective efforts and solidarity across Indonesia to help affected communities recover quickly,” he said.
