Jakarta - Commissioner of the Central Information Commission (KIP) Dono Prasetyo asserted that Greenpeace Indonesia is a public body which is obliged to provide information for the public, including donations it had received. Dono said based on Law No. 14/2008 on Public Information, any executive, legislative, judicial bodies, community organizations, nongovernmental organizations, political parties which receive funds from the state budget, the public and foreigners, were public bodies which are obliged to provide information to the public. "In this case, Greenpeace Indonesia collects public donations, and foreign assistance, therefore it is categorized as a public body which is obliged to provide information to the public. So Greenpeace Indonesia should abide by the law and the KIP and should be ready to meet the public need for information," Dono said here recently. Besides, Greenpeace Indonesia is also obliged to expose their fund sources because it is listed as an Indonesian legal entity which was registered in the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. The law on KIP also stipulates the non-governmental organization should provide information on its principles, objectives, programs, activities, name, address and the composition of its management. The organization must also describe the management and use of funds from the state budget, community contributions, or foreign sources also the organization's decision-making mechanism, organizational decisions and other information in accordance with the legislation.
