Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto expressed Indonesia's commitment to support open, orderly, and fair trade among countries in the Asia Pacific region.
He conveyed this statement during the Leaders Retreat of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit which was held in Lima, Peru, Saturday (November 16), local time.
"It is a great opportunity for APEC that we leaders in the Pacific continue to network. We discuss many issues, we maintain good trade, which is open but fair," said Prabowo, as quoted from a Presidential Secretariat statement here on Sunday.
According to him, APEC is a strategic forum to strengthen relations between countries in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in organizing international trade.
"We want orderly trade, which is free, but fair," he stated.
As one of the largest economies in the region, Indonesia is committed to play an active role in ensuring fairness in global trade, he explained.
In this year’s APEC Summit, the president also participated in bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries, where they discussed measures to strengthen trade relations, increase investment, and explore new mutually beneficial cooperation.
The 2024 APEC Summit in Lima also marked an important moment for Indonesia to advocate for inclusive trade that benefits not only large countries but also small and developing economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prabowo attended the Leaders’ Retreat session at the 2024 APEC Summit, held at the Lima Convention Center. The Indonesian president was greeted in person by the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte.
This year the APEC Summit carried the theme “Empower, Include, Grow”.
