Bojonegoro, East Java, Feb 10 (Antara) - The downstream areas of Bojonegoro, East Java, is braced for a devastating flood from Bengawan Solo River that potentially occur throughout the upstream areas.
Technical Implementation Unit of Bengawan Soso Water Resource Management Command Post spokesman Budi Indro remarked here on Saturday that high rainfall in recent days has made the surface of Bengawan Solo River to rise by 13.36 meters on Saturday morning.
Indro explained that the rise in the water level of Bengawan Solo in downstream areas was affected by heavy rain that occurred in Padangan sub-district and surrounding areas a day earlier.
Therefore, he urged the local community to always be on alert to anticipate the a devastating flood.
He said local disaster mitigation agency continues to coordinate with the people to anticipate the threats of flash flood and landslide which are likely to be triggered by the overflowing of Bengawan Solo River.
According to Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), rainfall that occurred in February could reach 500 millimeters, higher than that in January that reached only 200 millimeters. (*)
