Surabaya, (Antara) - The mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini (Risma), has encouraged the young people in the city of East Java Province to make the National Heroes Day commemoration on November 10, 2017 as a momentum for them to study harder and more actively.
"Even if we have gained the independence, the young people in Surabaya should not be unaware to learn because of increasingly tight global competition in the future," Risma remarked here on Sunday.
The mayor of Surabaya made the statement while participating in the Surabaya Heroic Parade from the National Heroic Monument to Surabaya Bungkul Park.
Hence, she reiterated that young people must learn harder to maintain that independence by showing their achievements in school.
Her message for the public is to interpret the momentum of Heroes Day as a sign to tireless and despair, but keep working hard to be able to win the battle against poverty and ignorance.
"Do not give up quickly, the spirit of work should be improved," she said.
According to her, the Surabaya Heroic Parade was intended for the residents of Surabaya, especially for the younger generation, to know the true meaning of the events of the November 10th.
"The parade is for the young people to understand and be able to interpret the independence that has been achieved by the predecessors," she said.
According to Risma, the fighters gained the independence not by an easy way but with all the extraordinary struggles and sacrifices.
The Surabaya Heroic Parade this time presented a number of theatrical actions as well as the action of the Sumpah Pregolan (free or dead oath) at the National Heroic Monument area, and Siola area.(*)
