Jakarta, (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) left Jakarta for the east Indonesian city of Ambon in Maluku Province on Wednesday for a working visit to attend the main event of National Press Day 2017 on Thursday.

Boarding the presidential aircraft RI-1, Jokowi and his entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 9 a.m. local time, and the flight is expected to land at the Pattimura Airport in Ambon in three hours, fifteen minutes.

While inaugurating National Press Day and the Maluku Expo 2017 in Ambon earlier on Monday, Maluku Deputy Governor Zeth Sahuburua said that in the presence of President Jokowi, he would assert that Maluku is ready to become the center for fish production in the country, as the province is the barometer of Indonesian marine natural wealth.

Maluku has a huge fishery potential of 1.64 million tons per year, which contributes to the welfare of the province and the nation, but unfortunately, only 21 percent, or around 341,966 tons, of it has been utilized.

According to Sahuburua, the fish production in Maluku Province constitutes 30 percent of the national production.

Maluku has 600 thousand square kilometers of sea, with extensive marine resources, to support the local people and to contribute to economic growth.

The government had declared Maluku as the center for fish production in the country, since the province is home to one of the most incredibly diverse marine ecosystems in Indonesia.

In the Ambon Bay alone, there is an abundance of fish species, making it impossible for specialists to give their exact count.

Maluku's waters serve as a habitat for more than three thousand fish species and several hundred identified coral species, with the numbers still rising. Even the healthiest of Caribbean reefs only have 10 to 20 percent of the species in terms of diversity compared to the reefs in Ambon, in particular, and Maluku, in general.(*)
