Sidoarjo, E Java, (Antara) - The nation's flag carrier Garuda Indonesia said it will serve regular flights between Surabaya and Madinah to expand its international operation in the Middle East.
The airline sees the potential market of Umroh (small Hajj) pilgrimage, Garuda's cargo director Sigit Muhartono said when making official the regular flight in a ceremony in Surabaya on Tuesday.
Sigit said the flight is once a week on Tuesday using Airbus 330-300 aircraft with a 260 seat capacity.
Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini, who was present in the ceremony expressed thanks for the service that would facilitate the people of Surabaya to perform Umroh.
"The Surabaya Muslims do not have to go to Jakarta if they want to perform Umroh pilgrimage, the mayor said.(*)
