Jakarta, (Antara) - A legislator has called to build an inventory of products to boycott goods produced in or by illegal Israeli settlements.
"The boycott could be carried out by firstly building an inventory of Israeli products factually produced in occupied territory and have entered Indonesia," Rofi Munawar, who is also member of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP), noted in a statement recently.
The politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) called to put an end to the polemics on the boycott.
The call for boycott was made by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as stated in the Jakarta Declaration issued in the grouping's extraordinary summit held in Jakarta on March 7, 2016.
He said the call was clear and not open to multiple interpretations.
The lawmaker also urged the government to implement the recommendations of the OIC summit by issuing policies to strengthen commitment to supporting Palestine.
"Because in history, the struggle against colonialism is, in fact, the ability to free oneself from the products of colonialists," he affirmed.
The OIC has urged to boycott products produced in or by illegal Israeli settlements to apply pressure on the Israeli Zionist regime to end its occupation of the Palestinian land.
"Calling on the international community to support the boycott of products produced in or by illegal Israel settlements," the OIC said in the 16th point of the 23-point Jakarta Declaration issued at the conclusion of the Fifth Extraordinary OIC Summit on Palestine and Al Quds Al Sharif (Jerusalem), in Jakarta, on March 7.
However, a day after the call was published, Presidential Spokesman Johan Budi informed the media that Indonesia had called for the boycott of Israel's policies over its occupation of Palestine but not Israeli products.
"It was not meant that way, boycotting the goods. The context was boycotting Israeli policies and its various bans in Palestine," Budi clarified.(*)
