Surabaya, E Java (Antara) -- Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini has expressed hope that all sides can successfully maintain a conducive situation in the city during the fasting month of Ramadhan, which starts next week.
"We ask all stakeholders to always establish synergy to make Surabaya secure, convenient and peaceful," she said here on Wednesday.
The city government, along with the Regional Leaders Forum (Forpimda) and other elements of the community, issued a joint call ahead of the fasting month at Graha Sawunggaling building here on Tuesday.
Among those present at the signing of a document containing the joint call were the Surabaya mayor, the chief of the Surabaya city legislative assembly, the commander of the Surabaya Naval Base V, the commander of Bhaskara Jaya military resort, the chief of the Surabaya city police, the head of the Surabaya high prosecutor's office, the chief of the Surabaya chapter of the Indonesian Ulemas Council, and the chief of the Interfaith Communication Forum.
Rismaharini also expressed her gratitude to all sides for the successful implementation of the joint agreement signed in 2014, stating that stability could be maintained in the city.
As a result, Muslims could fast well and residents of Surabaya celebrated with firecrackers. "I hope we can do it again in 2015. If not us, then who will keep the city stable and peaceful?" she remarked. (*)
