Surabaya Mayor, Europen Ambassadors Dsicuss Cooperation Program

Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini met with the ambassadors of seven European countries to Indonesia here on Friday.
\"Our mission is to strengthen the possibility of cooperation between Surabaya and cities in the European Union,\" said EU Ambassador to Indonesia Olof Skoog.
The meeting was also attended by the Czech Republic\'s Ambassador to Indonesia Tomas Smetanka, Ireland\'s Ambassador Kyle O\'Sullivan, Belgium\'s Ambassador Patrick Hermann, Austria\'s Ambassador Andreas Karabaczek, Poland\'s Ambassador Tadeusz Szumowski and Deputy Head of Mission from the Embassy of Sweden in Indonesia Eddy Fonyodi.
The mayor began the meeting by explaining Surabaya\'s commitment to establish itself as a service-centric and commercial city.
Risma emphasized that to realize the city\'s vision, there is a need to improve the quality of its human resources by increasing health and educational facilities.
As many as 978 libraries will be built in Surabaya to support the vision. The government will also provide computer training and set up broadband learning centers in a number of public facilities.
The mayor also mentioned the mass rapid transit development plan and the use of technology to support bureaucracy and online licensing.
\"It is undeniable that technology can have positive effects; for instance, it can reduce corruption,\" she added.(*)
