Jakarta (Antara) -- President Director of Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar officially resigned before the national flag carrier is scheduled to hold an extraordinary meeting of shareholders (RUPSLB) on Friday. "I received a letter of resignation (from Emirsyah Satar) only today," Deputy to State Enterprises Minister for Energy, Logistics and Transportation, Dwijanti Tjahjaningsih, said here on Thursday. In his letter, Satar made no mention of the reason behind his resignation, Tjahjaningsih added. The resignation will take effect only after it is approved by shareholders at the meeting when a new president director will be appointed, she noted. "Let's wait until tomorrow. To be sure, State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno has assessed candidates for the post of Garuda's president director," Tjahjaningsih affirmed. Earlier, Director for Human Resources and General Affairs of Garuda Hariyanto A. P. announced that Satar sent a letter of resignation to the state enterprises minister on December 8. Satar remarked that his term of office could no longer be extended. "The RUPS (general meeting of shareholders) was originally planned to be held early in March 2015. This (RUPSLB) is held only a few months ahead of the RUPS. I think this is a good time (for me to resign)," he explained. Furthermore, Satar also pointed out that he resigned earlier than expected to give a chance to his successor to draw up a better business plan for 2015. Among several figures widely believed to be in the run to replace Satar are president director of PT Citilink Indonesia Arif Wibowo and former president director of state telecommunication company PT Telkom, Rinaldy Firmansyah.
