Jakarta (Antara) -- The government is set to revitalize the Sea Security Coordination Board (Bakorkamla) into the Sea Security Board (Bakamala) soon, according to the new Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno.
"So far, (the Coordinating Ministry for) Political, Legal and Security Affairs has spearheaded development measures for land and sea through the Bakorkamla. We will soon issue a government regulation to change Bakorkamla to the Bakamla," Purdijatno said while being handed over the post of the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs here on Tuesday.
He added that the Bakamala would be a renewed version of the Bakorkamla, which was created during the term of the former Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
According to the Secretary of the Bakorkamla, Dicky R Munaf, the Bakamala will be a direct responsibility of the president.
"The president will be directly responsible for the Bakamla. Also, as we will be coordinating with other relevant agencies (to carry out its duties), the Bakamla will not be overseeing maritime affairs alone. It is the revitalization of the Bakorkamla, not a new institution," he explained.
Munaf further noted that stakeholders of the Bakamla are those related to maritime security, including the navy, the police, customs offices, the ministry of fisheries and maritime affairs, and the national intelligence agency. (*) Reported by Syaiful Hakim
