Jakarta (Antara) - Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia women section has criticized the government regulation 2014 on Reproductive Health, as it is considered legalized abortion, a spokeswoman Iffah Ainur Rochmah reported here on Thursday. "Especially, in the article about the permissibility of abortion to women who are pregnant due to rape besides those having a medical emergency," Iffah added. Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia women section has criticized two important factors with regard to the regulation. The first pertains to the legalization of abortion for rape victims. The second pertains to the concept of reproductive health, which overarches the legalization of abortion. According to her, it is a shame that some people see the permissibility of abortion to rape victims in a normative aspect alone. The regulation says that abortions committed before 40 days of pregnancy is allowed according to Islamic jurisprudence. Awareness should be created in the society that this regulation possibly allows abuse by the adulterers to legalize the abortions as a consequence of their deeds. The regulation also provides an opportunity for legalizing abortion in the case of unwanted pregnancies, pregnancy due to adultery, failed birth, and pregnancy considered to hinder careers and works, as has happened in liberal countries. The concept of Reproductive Health mentioned in the Regulation and Health Act is not for improving women's physical and mental health conditions. (*)
