Indonesia and PNG Hold Joint Border Military Patrol after Incident

Sentani, Papua (Antara) - Indonesian and Papua New Guinean military hold joint patrol to maintain security in the border area in Papua following earlier incidents in the district of Jayapura.
On April 5, a local police chief Adj Sr. Comr Alfred Papare and a soldier Tugino were injured and on April 16 , a civilian Hery was killed after being shot at by a group of armed civilians.
"We are now cooperating and having coordination with the Papua New Guinean military to guar4antee security in the border area. We hope there would be no trouble," Indonesian regional military commander Major General Christian Zebua said here on Wednesday.
The Papua New Guinean military is involved in creating security in the border area as the armed gangs often crossed the border to Papua New Guinea when they were on the retreat. (*)
