Police Deploys Nine Thousand Personnel to Secure Chinese New Year

Jakarta (Antara) - More than nine thousand police personnel will be deployed to secure the Chinese New Year celebrations in Indonesia stated Chief of Indonesian Police General Sutarman.
"Over nine thousand police personnel will be deployed to secure the Chinese New Year celebrations. We will deploy more than three thousand personal in Jakarta and the rest will be on standby at the Police Headquarters," Sutarman claimed here on Thursday.
The Chinese Lunar New Year 2565 falls on Friday and has been announced as a national holiday.
Sutarman explained that the personnel will be deployed in several areas, such as temples and monasteries as well as tourism and recreational areas.
He added that no terror threats related to the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations have yet been reported.
However, the police will maintain a guarded stance in keeping with the potential threat of terrorism in Indonesia.
"There are no terror threats. But, we know that terror networks still exist. We will continue to maintain a constant vigil. The police will secure public facilities and ensure that the conditions stay conducive during the Friday festivities," Sutarman emphasized. (*)
