Sukabumi, W Java (Antara) - A tornado damaged 67 houses in three villages of Sukabumi District, West Java Province, on Tuesday. "Based on our data, at least 67 houses have been damaged of which 15 houses are located in Bojonggenteng Village, 14 houses are in Bojonggaling Village, and 38 houses are in Berkah Village, which come under the Bojonggenteng Sub-district area," said the Chief of Sukabumi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Andi Kusnadi, here on Wednesday. Two people were injured after a building damaged by the tornado collapsed on them. They were treated by local medical officers. As per preliminary data received from BPBD on Tuesday afternoon, the tornado caused minor damage, such us damage to roofs of several residences. "We have provided emergency assistance to the disaster victims. A team has also evacuated people whose houses are not fit to be occupied to a safer area," Kusnadi stated. Meanwhile, the Emergency and Logistic Section Chief of Sukabumi BPBD, Usman Susilo, said another tornado hit the Jampangtengah Sub-district, damaging 62 houses. Of the total houses, 15 were moderately damaged while two houses suffered heavy damage. "The BPBD is in disaster preparedness status as, in the recent week, there have been several (tornado) incidents in sub-districts located in Sukabumi," Susilo said. (*)
