Banyumas, C Java (Antara) - A tornado damaged ten houses in four villages in Banyumas District, central Java, on Friday evening. "The tornado struck four villages, Karangduren, Sokaraja Kulon, Sokaraja Tengah, and Klahang, on Friday evening," said sub district administration officer Suwondo Geni here on Saturday. He added that the heaviest damage hit Karangduren Village, where at least ten houses in two neighborhoods suffered severe damage, eight houses were moderately damage, while ten others suffered minor damage. Meanwhile, three other villages hit by the tornado only suffered minor damages, as well as a fallen tree. Geni said several houses that suffered heavy damage in Karangduren Village were semi-permanent buildings. "The tornado blew off roofs of semi-permanent houses, leaving only the pillars. A similar disaster also struck Karangduren Village two years ago," he said. Geni said the disaster did not result in any casualties. He added that the administration has reported the disaster to the Banyumas Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD). "Banyumas Mayor Achmad Husein planned to have a meeting with the heads of several villages. The Karangduren people will help through providing community services, along with the Indonesia Military and Police," Geni said. (*)
