Cianjur, West Java (Antara) - The remains of 22 illegal immigrants who drowned in the waters off Cianjur, West Java, after their boat capsized were taken to a local hospital in Cianjur on Saturday. The bodies will later be moved to Kramatjati police hospital in Jakarta. Into the second day of the incident, a team from the military, police and local disaster mitigation service, as well as community members, continued searching for possible survivors in the waters but, as of the evening, had found no one alive. The death toll stands at 22 dead, while 35 passengers are safe. Cianjur police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Deny Kusuma said all of the dead and survivors were evacuated from local health care centers and temporary shelters. "The survivors have been sent to an immigration center in Sukabumi and the dead to Cianjur regional hospital, before being taken to Kramatjati hospital in Jakarta," he said. It was reported that a fisherman's boat carrying 125 asylum seekers from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan and Africa has capsized in the waters off Cianjur, West Java. (*)
