Jakarta (Antara) - Former defense forces commander General Endriartono Sutarto has expressed readiness to share his vision on nation building at the upcoming Democrat Party's convention for the selection of a presidential candidate for next year's election.
"I have ideas and views about how to develop this country, which I want to share by participating in the convention," he said here on Tuesday.
Endriartono stated that his vision and mission involved improving people's welfare and the Indonesia's global competitiveness.
However, he refused to go into details about his vision and mission, saying he would do so at the convention.
"I think it would offend the convention's committee if I do tell them about it first," Endriartono said.
When asked whether he had quit the National Democrat Party (Nasdem) to take part in the Democrat Party's convention, Endriartono said he was still a member of the Nasdem because he had yet to submit his resignation letter to the party.
"Meanwhile, however, if I have been discharged, I do not know, because I have not received the discharge letter yet," he added.
The ruling Democrat Party plans to convene a convention in order to select the party's presidential candidate for next year's election.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who belongs to the party, is not legally allowed to seek reelection because he has served two terms at the post. (*)
