Indonbesian Diaspora Submit Reports at CDI

Jakarta (Antara) - The 11 task forces of the Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN) submitted their reports at the Second Congress of Indonesian Diaspora (CDI) on Tuesday evening. Daliana Suryawinata from the Livable Cities Task Force delivered the reports to Coordinator Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa during the closing ceremony of CDI at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). "In these three days of CDI (held from August 18 through August 20), we have worked with a lot of positive energy and in a spirit of togetherness to contribute something significant to Indonesia," she said. The 11 task forces had committed to establishing an Indonesian Diaspora Global Network that could be represented in all national chapters, setting up a legal diaspora office in Jakarta, organizing the CDI event biennially, and assisting the regional chapters in hosting the event. In one of the reports submitted by the task forces, the organizations from the business and investment sector pledged to cooperate with the national and international banks in reducing remittance fee, which had reached up to 15 percent, particularly in regions where the diaspora population was concentrated. On the second day of CDI (August 19), World Bank managing director Sri Mulyani, an elite member of the Indonesian diaspora, suggested that the remittance fee be reduced to five percent in light of the potentially heavy influx of IDN funds - of approximately US$7.1 million - into Indonesia. Daliana also submitted reports from the task forces focusing on the energy sector, migrant workers, immigration and citizenship, education, innovation and technology, livable cities, green economy, health, culinary activities, aerospace, and youth.
