Jakarta (Antara) - The Jakarta Sanitary Service has said that the Legislation Council of the Jakarta Legislative Assembly (DPRD) will soon finish deliberating and enact a draft bylaw (Perda) on waste management.
"This year, the Legislation Council will discuss the draft and enact it into a bylaw," said Head of Jakarta Sanitary Service Unu Nurdin here on Saturday.
He said that the regulation will replace Perda No 5 of 1988 on environmental cleanliness in the Jakarta area.
He said that the bylaw did not regulate sanctions only, but also comprehensive management of waste in Jakarta.
"This legislation also regulates the management of waste in Jakarta from the upstream to the downstream sources. It will be followed up by the government through legislation at the local level," he said.
Nevertheless, he said that the management of waste to make the city clean and comfortable will not be effective if it is passed on to the government only.
"The active role of all stakeholders including the community to maintain cleanliness is essential. Regulation should create synergy of all stakeholders," he said. (*)
