Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto has emphasized the three fundamental roles of universities in society: producing high-quality human resources, conducting research and innovation, and providing real solutions to community needs.
He delivered the remarks during a working visit to Fakfak State Polytechnic (Polinef) in West Papua on Friday (July 4).
“Polytechnics like Polinef must serve as drivers of regional economic growth. This can be achieved by strengthening the vocational education ecosystem, fostering active partnerships with industry and government, and building an inclusive academic culture,” the minister said in a statement from Jakarta on Sunday.
Minister Brian stressed that these three functions can only operate effectively when supported by strong and collaborative campus management.
He encouraged all universities to position themselves as public hubs that radiate values of character and knowledge to the surrounding communities.
Brian expressed confidence that students in Fakfak are capable of becoming key players in development, not mere spectators.
“The availability of top-tier human resources is key to attracting investment. We must not miss this moment of growth. Vocational education is the fastest path to a productive and competitive Indonesia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fakfak District Head Samaun Dahlan reaffirmed the local government's commitment to supporting Polinef’s development as a center for producing outstanding and professional graduates.
He expressed hope that programs related to oil and gas as well as marine resources would serve as viable pathways for local students to enter the industrial sector.
The minister's visit underscores the government's commitment to expanding and equalizing access to quality higher education for the people of Papua.
