Jakarta (ANTARA) - A new orchid species from East Kalimantan, Trichoglottis Najibii, is showcased at the Floriculture Indonesia International (FLOII) Expo 2024 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, Banten.
The Trichoglottis najibii orchid was found in the tropical rainforest of East Kalimantan at an altitude of 300-500 meters above sea level.
Its distinctive features are the lateral lobes of the orchid's labellum, which are attached to the column and the 8-9 mm long curved cylindrical spurs, making it a truly unique orchid species.
In his statement on Sunday, Yuda R. Yudistira, one of the founders of the species, stated that the species was named Trichoglottis najibii to honor the discovery.
"We hope we can introduce it to the public through exhibitions like FLOII Expo 2024," he said.
In addition to showcasing the beauty of the rare species, the FLOII Expo 2024, held from December 5 to 8, 2024, also educates visitors on the potential of the ornamental plant business, which continues to develop.
Project Manager of FLOII Expo 2024 Della Azkia Surur stated that the exhibition is not only an opportunity for ornamental plant enthusiasts to enjoy the beauty of the plants but also to seek new business opportunities in Indonesia's floriculture industry.
The exhibition's visitors can find various other types of ornamental plants, such as the Monstera, Sansevieria, and Aglaonema, as well as succulent plants and cactuses.
It also features a talk show on floriculture business opportunities and an eco-print workshop.
The FLOII Expo 2024 provides opportunities for industry players and plant enthusiasts to collaborate and expand business networks.
With support from the Ministry of Agriculture and a number of large companies, the event is expected to have a positive impact on the development of Indonesia's floriculture industry.
