Five Years Demanded for Former Home Affairsd Minister

Jakarta - A Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutor on Friday demanded five years in jail for former home affairs minister Hari Sabarno for allegedly abusing his authority in the procurement of fire trucks.
The public prosecutor at the Corruption Court on Friday also demanded that Hari be ordered to pay a fine of 250 million failing which he would have to spend six more months in confinement.
The prosecutor said the defendant was proven to have abused his authority in connection with the procurement of fire trucks for 22 provinces in Indonesia in the 2003 - 2005 period.
According to the prosecutor, Hari, together with then regional autonomy director general Oentario Sindung Marwardi, appointed PT Sarana Istana Raya belonging to Hengky Samuel Daud as the party to e procure the fire trucks with trademark Morita and type V 80 ASM.
This matter was, according to the prosecutor, an abuse of power because with the radiogram, the regional heads and Hengky Samuel Daud then conducted the procurement of the fire trucks.
The issuance of the radiogram according to the prosecutor was an abuse of power as regulated in article 3, juncture article 18 Law No. 31 / 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes.
The court session was adjourned until next week when the defendant would deliver his defense statement. (*)
