Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Malang government has imposed stricter micro-scale community activity restrictions to stem any potential spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Malang Mayor Sutiaji said in Malang city, East Java, on Monday that he had urged government staff to focus on imposing micro-scale community activity restrictions in a sustainable manner.
He further said that to limit the spread of the Omicron variant in the city, his administration will push for early examination (testing), tracing, and treatment, or 3Ts.
In addition, the Malang Health Office has been asked to administer more booster vaccines with haste to create herd immunity against the virus, he informed.
"Caution needs to be practiced more, and the 3Ts imposed. Booster vaccinations have been expedited along with control at the micro level," he said.
Despite the risk posed by the Omicron variant, the Malang government will still allow full-capacity work-from-office, he added. The decision was made to continue economic growth, he explained.
The PeduliLindungi application must be used properly, especially in office areas in the city, given the work-from-office policy, the mayor said.
As of the first week of January 2022, Malang city has recorded a vaccination rate of 107.13 percent for the first dose, 93.24 percent for the second dose, while the third dose coverage among medical personnel has reached 101.22 percent, he noted.
Meanwhile, the first dose coverage among the elderly has been recorded at 68.01 percent, or as many as 56,501 residents, and the second dose at 62.23 percent, he added.
Malang has recorded 15,666 positive confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 11 active cases currently. Of the total, 14,522 people have recovered and 1,133 have succumbed to the disease. (INE)
