Meanwhile, earlier this week, floods triggered by heavy rains hit three sub-districts in East Java's Ponorogo District, forcing tens of people to flee their inundated homes.
The flood, which affected the sub-districts of Sampung, Sukorejo, and Kauman, inundated 25 homes and paralyzed means of land transportation in several parts of the sub-districts, Setyo Budiono, chief of the rehabilitation and reconstruction section of the Ponorogo District Natural Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD), noted on Tuesday.
"In the villages of Galon and Carangrejo in Kauman Sub-district, the water level reached an average of one meter high, and the BPBD has deployed two rubber boats to evacuate children and senior citizens," he noted.
On Tuesday morning, the evacuees returned homes, as the floodwaters had begun receding. However, floodwaters continue to inundate several sections of roads and paddy fields, he revealed.
The heavy rains, which fell in Ponorogo from around 5 p.m. local time until midnight, caused the Ringinputih River in Sampung Sub-district to overflow, he remarked.
"Heavy rains began falling at around 5 p.m. local time, causing the water level to rise. As a result, several downstream sections of the river were inundated," he added. (*)
