Jakarta, (Antara) - Researchers from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta invent an original probiotic of Indonesia's organic chicken that one of its functions as antibodies to poultry in the country.
"Without a control, the use of antibiotics in poultry will increase microbes' immune to antibiotics," Professor of Animal Science Poultry, Prof. Sri Harimurti, said in a press release received by Antara here on Tuesday.
According to him, the impact of the resistant microbe cases also threaten human health, sustainability of food production and national development.
He stated that the findings of probiotics will contribute significantly to the health of the Indonesian people.
According to Prof. Hari, the finding was initiated from the cases of pathogenic bacterial infections that cause diarrhea in chicken farms in Yogyakarta.
Generally, he explained, the causes of the case are poor drainage in warehouses and sanitation in cages, as well as management of unfit chicken bedding types.
According to him, in various advanced countries the antibiotics has been successfully changed using probiotics. Now many countries have banned the addition of antibiotics to poultry feed.
Furthermore, Prof. Hari said the probiotics found by the UGM researchers have been successfully applied to broiler chickens, quail and turkey with a very satisfying result.(*)
