Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - East Java province saw its exports rising 15.34 percent to US$1.797 billion in January 2015 from US$1.558 billion in December 2014. "Compared to January 2014, the exports in January 2015 rose 9.66 percent," Head of the Statistics Distribution Section of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in East Java Satriyo said here on Monday. Oil and gas exports in January 2015 plunged 38.70 percent to US$47.43 million from US$77.38 million in December 2014, he said. However, non-oil/non-gas exports surged 18.16 percent to US$1.749 billion in January 2015 compared with US$1.480 billion in December 2014. "Compared to January 2014, the non-oil/non-gas exports in January roe 10.07 percent," he said. The non-oil/non-gas exports in January 2015 were dominated by jewelry with a value of US$582.98 million, followed by animal and vegetable oils and fats worth US$125.94 million, copper worth US$105.67 million, wood and wood products worth US$82.31 million, and fish and shrimp worth US$78.91 million. Japan led the export market of non-oil/non-gas commodities from East Java with a value of US$239.60 million, followed by Taiwan US$217.60 million and Switzerland US$200.05 million. Among ASEAN member states, Malaysia was the biggest buyer of non-oil/non-gas commodities from East Java with a value of US$110.86 million, followed by Singapore US$68.16 million, and Thailand US$55.26 million, he said.
