Police Arrest Two Terror Suspects im East Java

Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The Indonesian Police has arrested two terror suspects in East Java who are believed to be linked to terrorist Dulmatin, one of the masterminds behind the 2002 Bali bombings.
"The suspects were included in the police search list. They were arrested by the Special Detachment 88 team of the Indonesian Police in Banyuwangi and Lamongan of East Java Province. We believe that they are linked to Dulmatin," Chief of East Java Provincial Police Inspector General Anas Yusuf stated here on Tuesday (Dec. 23).
The police, with the assistance of the intelligence agency and Civil Security Agency, had conducted early detection to avoid terror attacks during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
"Some terror threats had surfaced in some areas in the northern highway of Java and 'horseshoe' area. We will conduct early detection and anticipation, so that the people can celebrate Christmas and New Year in a safe and secure manner," Anas affirmed.
The chief confirmed that the police have arrested terror suspect alias AM (44) who lived in Puri Brawijaya Permai Housing Complex of Kebalenan Sub-district, Banyuwangi District, on Monday evening (Dec. 22).
The Special Detachment 88 squad has also arrested terror suspect alias TS (36) who resided in Kalimalang Hamlet, Kentong Village, Glagah Sub-district of Lamongan District, East Java Province, on Sunday evening (Dec. 21).
"Yes, the information is correct. The team has arrested the suspect in Banyuwangi on Monday, at 7:30 p.m. local time. We have given custody of the suspect to the Indonesian Police Headquarter to conduct further investigation," noted Chief of Banyuwangi Resort Police Senior Commissioner Adjunct Tri Bisono Sumiharso.
Additionally, Public Relations Chief of the Indonesian Police Headquarter Inspector General Ronny F. Sompie confirmed that the special detachment squad had arrested the terror suspect in Lamongan of East Java.
"He was involved in training operations in Jantho, Aceh, and had planned the training in Aceh that was led by Dulmatin," Ronny noted, adding that the police had arrested another terror suspect alias Arqom from the same location in Lamongan in 2013. (*)
