Jakarta (Antara) - The Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party faction member Fary Djemy has been unanimously appointed as chairman of the Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR).
Fary was appointed following a commission leadership election held at the Parliament Building here Thursday.
Muhidin Muhammad Said of the Golkar Party faction (FPG), Michael Wattimena of the Democratic Party faction (FPD), and Yudi Widiana Adia of the Prosperous Justice Party faction (FPKS) were elected vice-chairmen.
The four names were proposed in a package by 30 legislators of five political parties' factions who were present for the election.
The participating factions were FGerindra, FPG, FPKS, FPD, and FPAN, which are member parties of the Red-White Coalition headed by retired general Prabowo Subianto who lost the presidential election in July 2014.
The five factions that stayed away from the election were the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle faction (FPDI), the Nation Awakening Party faction (FPKB), the National Democratic Party faction (FNasDem), the People's Conscience Party faction (FHanura), and the United Development Party faction (FPPP).
They belong to the rival Great Indonesia Coalition (KIH) led by the PDIP. The KIH has been supporting Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, the new president, since the beginning of the general election.
The House's Commission election was chaired by Deputy House Speaker Agus Hermanto, a member of the Democratic Party (PD). "Because there was only one package proposed for the Commission V leadership, I need your endorsement," he told the members of the political party factions present in the gathering.
"Agree!" the audience responded. (*)
