Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (Antara) - About a thousand Muslims from different Islamic boarding schools in the Indonesian Island of Lombok staged a peaceful rally here Sunday to show their solidarity for Palestinians who are currently under the Israeli attacks.
The demonstrators shouted "takbir" (Allah is Great) and brought several banners containing condemnation to the Israeli invasion of Gaza, which has brutally killed civilians, including women and children.
Ahmad Muclis, chairman of the National Committee for the People of Palestine (KNRP) who lead the rally, urged Muslims across the country to donate for the Palestinians through "One Thousand One Day" movement.
He also called on the Muslim World to fight for the independence of Palestine.
The Indonesian Government condemned the deadly Israeli attacks and pledged to donate US$1 million worth of humanitarian aid to Palestine.
The humanitarian aid was also given by Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto who donated one billion rupiah to the Palestinians.
"Action needs to be taken to help our Palestinian brothers and sisters by collecting donation, even though just a few, and today, I donate one billion rupiah," Prabowo said when joining a rally at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout on Friday. (*) Reported by Nirkomala
