Jakarta (Antara) - Internationally, Indonesian Muslims are role models, stated Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal.
"I think people need to realize that Islam in Indonesia has become a role model to the world because we have chosen to follow a special vision of it," Dino Patti Djalal stated after visiting the Islamic Boarding School, Gontor, in Ponorogo, on Friday.
Dino remarked that Indonesia has adopted values of Islam that are moderate, progressive, and bright.
Dino, who has served as Indonesia's ambassador for the United States, affirmed that Indonesian people should continue to uphold those values, so that the nation can forge ahead on the path of development.
He pointed out that presently, Muslims have deviated from following the true essence of Islam and get easily influenced, which can trigger conflicts in Indonesia.
"They need a source of reference, and the Muslims in Indonesia are one of the positive sources of reference," he emphasized.
Deputy Foreign Minister along with Tatang Budie Utama Razak, the Foreign Ministry's director for legal aid and protection of Indonesian nationals overseas, conducted a public awareness campaign on the globalization of Indonesia and protection of its migrant workers.
Some of the locations where the campaign was organized were the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga of Yogyakarta, Islamic Boarding School in Gontor, and the State Islamic University (UIN) in Malang. (*)
