Jakarta (Antara) - Presidential candidate for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Joko Widodo met with chief of the Golkar Party's advisory council Akbar Tanjung at the latter's residence in South Jakarta on Sunday night.
The meeting lasted from 07.30 to 09.00 p.m. But Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, refused to comment on the result of his meeting with Akbar.
"We only ate noodle, ate noodle. That's all," Jokowi said.
During the meeting Jokowi was accompanied by PDIP's deputy secretary general Hasto Kristiyanto and defense expert Andi Widjajanto, while Akbar was accompanied by member of the Golkar Party's advisory council Mahadi Sinambela and deputy secretary general of the Golkar Party Musfihin Dahlan.
At the meeting, Jokowi and Akbar accompanied by his wife, Krisnina Maharani ate noodle together.
Hasto said the meeting between Jokowi and Akbar was just a friendship meeting.
Akbar's wife who hailed from Solo was acquainted with Jokowi when he was a mayor of the Central Java city, Hasto said.
But Hasto added the meeting also touched on political issues.
Of course, Jokowi needed to hear Akbar Tanjung's views, he said.
"This is a dialog between two leaders. At the meeting Akbar spoke of how to deal with crisis," he said.
Akbar said his meeting with Jokowi who is currently Jakarta governor might be a response to his statement that he was ready to nominate for vice president.
Asked if he was offered to run for vice presidency at the meeting, Akbar said: "We did not explicitly say that. We touched on it a little bit but not explicitly."
It was very likely that the Golkar Party would form a coalition with PDIP, he said. (*)
