Jakarta (Antara) - Legislative candidate Olla Dorkas Dwaramury of the National Democrat (Nasdem) Party had urged the police force to immediately find the person responsible for the shooting of a legislative candidate in Aceh province. "The shooting was unethical. The police must chase the suspect in the shooting case. They cannot remain silent and ignore the case," she said here on Friday. Unless the suspect was arrested, trouble makers will have the potential to commit such deeds in other parts of the country, she added. Olla, who was a Nasdem legislative candidate from the Papua constituency, said no resident of the country's easternmost province wished for unrest, particularly during the election day. "Police must prevent anyone who tries to disrupt democracy from doing that during the election period," she said. Besides deploying security personnel from the police force and the military, the government could involve civilians in securing the 2014 elections by safeguarding their respective residential areas, she noted. The public must be encouraged to maintain security at village, sub-district and district levels, she said. "The government cannot just rely on security personnel to maintain security. Sometimes the places where security personnel were stationed were far from urban areas. Therefore, the public must be trained to maintain security in their respective areas. If the public maintained security, then who will disrupt the peace and order," she added. (*)
