Surabaya, East Java (Antara) - Cargo ship Journey sank after hitting MV Lambelu at the port of Tanjung Perak of Surabaya, East Java in early Tuesday.
"The incident occurred at 02.25 local time and an hour later the cargo vessel sank," a port officer Marzuki said.
The Journey carrying 133 containers was about to depart to the port of Lembar of West Nusa Tenggara.
After pulling up the anchor the vessel was drifted by the sea current toward MV Lembelu, which was dropping its anchor.
"The collision caused a leak in the cargo vessels that it finally went down the sea," Marzuki said.
There was no loss of life in the accident. The 17 crewmen of Journey swamp to safety and were helped by other ships.
Apparently the MV Lambelu, a subsidiary of state shipping company Pelni, suffered no serious damage.
The authorities were still investigating the incident, Marzuki said. (*)
