St. Petersburg, Russia - Indonesian students have not been affected by the floods and landslides in southern Russia that have claimed at least 137 lives in Krasnodar. "Thank God they were not affected by the deadliest flood in the past 70 years," said the Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Students Association in Russia, (Permira) Ghozi Ul Haq, in St.Petersburg on Sunday. The three students living closest to the flood-hit area near the Black Sea are Muresva Rindi, Afdhal Fikri, and Rosman Acong. "They do live in Krasnodar, but the flood has not affected the area where they live," Ghozi stated. There are 132 Indonesian students in Russia, but only three study in Kasnodar. The Indonesian Embassy in Russia also confirmed that floods had hit Krasnodar on July 7 but there were no Indonesian victims near or at the disaster site. The news was conveyed by the Indonesian ambassador to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, Djauhari Oratmangun. Djauhari said the three Indonesian students in Krasnodar were studying at Kuban State Technological University and were safe. "We have contacted them and they are fine. In fact, they are taking the semester exams", he added. (*)
