Prabowo's closeness with Erdogan, Modi rooted in shared G20 goals: PCO

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto's closeness with leaders such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stems from having similar interests as members of the G20.

In a voice message to ANTARA here on Friday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) spokesperson, Philips J. Vermonte, stated that Turkey, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia all have significant roles to play as fellow members of the G20.

"Hence, they are like leading countries among the developing nations in the Global South. They feel it is in their shared interest to advance and ensure economic growth is sustainable," Vermonte remarked.

Vermonte's statement relates to President Prabowo's numerous meetings with key figures from other countries early in the year, including visits to India and Malaysia in late January and President Erdogan's recent visit at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java.

He highlighted that President Prabowo, President Erdogan, PM Modi, and PM Anwar Ibrahim are all focused on improving the prosperity of their people.

They also discussed maintaining global peace during their meetings, given the uncertainties caused by the current geopolitical situation.

"They are also striving to keep world peace, especially since there are more and more conflicts making things uncertain in international politics," he remarked.

He added that the president believes in being a "good neighbor" not only with ASEAN countries but also with other regions.

According to Vermonte, positive relationships between countries begin with strong relationships between their leaders, which is why Prabowo travels abroad and welcomes leaders to Indonesia.

"Relationships with other countries often start with leaders getting along," he affirmed.
