Surabaya, E Java, Antara Jatim) - The Surabaya City Election Commission (KPU) is prepared to hold the mayoral election in December 2015, Chief of the East Java Provincial Election Commission Eko Sasmito said.
"Among the 19 districts and municipalities in East Java that will hold regional head elections in December 2015, Surabaya belongs to the category of the most-prepared region. Moreover, the city has had no problem with funding to hold the election after the signing of the regional grant agreement (NPHD)," he stated on the sidelines of a meeting of sub-district election committees at Singgasana Hotel here on Friday.
"Surabaya has a lot of experience in holding elections," Sasmito added.
All problems related to time and rules are the responsibility of the National Election Commission (KPU).
"We are awaiting a rule from the Central KPU. If we have a problem during registration, we will refer it to the Central KPU's decision. We only follow instructions from the central commission," he pointed out.
In addition, some districts and municipalities in East Java have yet to receive the funds for the election, although the province had set June 3 as the deadline for the disbursement of the money.
"If the funds cannot be disbursed, all phases of the election will be put on hold," Sasmito remarked. (*)
