Surabaya, E Java (Antara Jatim) - The Surabaya chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will ask a few other parties to form a coalition, following its meeting on Wednesday.
The parties it intends to ask are the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), the People's Conscience (Hanura) Party, and the United Development Party (PPP).
"We will establish more active communication channels with other political parties. After a recommendation is issued, everything will become certain," Deputy Chief of the Surabaya Chapter of the PDIP Adi Sutarwijono said here on Tuesday.
The Surabaya chapter of the party is set to hold a special working meeting on Wednesday, July 8. At the meeting, the PDIP will read a recommendation on its mayoral candidate for Surabaya and a running mate.
Sutarwijono was responding to a statement made by Chief of the East Java Chapter of Nasdem Party Effendie Choiri that the PDIP does not need a coalition to nominate incumbent Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini for the elections on December 9.
He claimed that so far, he has coordinated with the Nasdem Party at the central level, but there were no signs of forming a coalition for the Surabaya mayoral election.
Moreover, the three parties did not join the so-called Majapahit coalition, which includes the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, the Golkar Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Democratic Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). (*)
