Bandung, W Java (Antara) - The arts community conducted a "Wayang Golek" (Marionette Puppet) show as part of campaign for the presidential and vice-presidential candidate pair Prabowo-Hatta in Juanda street, West Java provincial city of Bandung on Tuesday.
"The Wayang Golek story was part of an artist's criticism about the existing government and the expectation for a strong leader who could make Indonesia a great nation," said chairman of the Bandung Barat district Arts Council, Ase Rukmatara.
The Wayang Golek performance under the leadership of Rahmat Taufik Hidayat from Bandung Barat district conveyed about how to choose a leader as recommended by religion, and interspersed with humor played by puppet figures, namely Cepot and Dawala.
"The puppet stories should not only tell about Mahabharata and others, but also about social criticism, which will develop and provide a healthy entertainment," he noted.
Ase further said that in supporting Prabowo-Hatta duo, he has scheduled puppet shows across many villages.
The story presented in the puppet show was part of the Prabowo-Hatta campaign and conveyed goodness messages in human life, he revealed.
According to him, such support was given to Prabowo-Hatta because the pair expressed more concern about culture, and Indonesian culture is believed to be raised further up to the International level.
Marionette Puppet is a Sundanese traditional art form made of wood, which is very popular especially in the land of Pasundan or West Java. (*)
