Malaysia Stiil Investigating Possible Hijacking of MH370

Kuala Lumpur (Antara) - Malaysian authorities continue investigating all possible causes of the missing MH370 Malaysian Airlines flight, including the possibility that the aircraft was hijacked. "The investigation team is working to get more information, authorities are still investigating all possible causes of why MH370 deviated from its flight path, including the possibility of piracy, according to a press statement released at Sama-Sama Hotel Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Saturday. Although there were earlier reports about the possibility of a hijacking, the Malaysian Prime Minister asserted that authorities are still investigating all possibilities that might explain why MH370 flight deviated from its original flight path. In his press statement, Prime Minister Najib confirmed that the unknown aircraft caught on the main radar was the Malaysian Airlines MH370 and declared that the aircraft has deviated from its original flight path to Beijing. The flight has been missing since Saturday, March 8. "Today, due to the raw satellite data obtained from satellite data service providers, we can certify that the aircraft shown in the main radar data is Flight MH370," he said. Further, Malaysian investigators have determined that the aircraft was possibly traveling in one of two air corridors. These two corridors reach north to the border to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and northern Thailand, while the southern corridor stretches from Indonesia to the northern Indian Ocean. "Currently, a team of investigators are trying to monitor developments with the new information," said Najib. Flight MH370 was operated using a Boeing 777-200 aircraft. It departed Kuala Lumpur at 00.41 am on Saturday morning, March 8, 2014, bound for Beijing. The aircraft was scheduled to land at Beijing International Airport at 6.30am Beijing time. However, the aircraft lost contact with Subang air traffic control at around 02.40 am Saturday morning. (*)
