Palembang, S Sumatra (Antara) - Palembang, capital of South Sumatra province, will become a Center for ASEAN Journalism Education and Training (CAJET), according to Akhmad Kusaeni, Permanent Secretary of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ). The center, for the first time, will train 22 journalists from 10 ASEAN member states and Timor Leste from February 11 to 13, he said while attending a conference of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI)'s chapter in South Sumatra on Saturday. Akhmad Kusaeni said creating the center was proposed by the PWI delegation to the CAJ General Assembly held in Manila in November last year. Through hard work, the Indonesian delegation had the proposal approved at the Manila meeting, he said. The establishment of the center will be officially announced during the commemoration of National Press Day in Bengkulu province on February 9 this year, he said. During the launch of CAJET, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to deliver a general lecture before journalists from 10 ASEAN member states and Timor Leste. ASEAN members include Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (*)
