Jakarta (Antara) - Hundreds of public vehicles that are not roadworthy have been impounded by the Jakarta Administration in order to create a safe and comfortable public transportation system in the nation's capital. "During the operation conducted from July 25 to October 7, we have impounded 327 public vehicles that are not roadworthy," said Head of Transportation Office of Jakarta Administration Udar Pristono on Wednesday. The administration inspected the transportation safety at five district areas of Jakarta and terminals in the city in the last three months. A total of 170 metromini and 47 kopaja minibuses and 110 other public vehicles have been impounded. "So far, 201 drivers or owners of public vehicles have signed an agreement stating that they are willing to restore their vehicles," Pristono said. They are, then, allowed to get their vehicles repaired. "However, if the vehicles are found operational without any repair, failing the vehicle roadworthiness test (KIR), we will confiscate them and revoke the route permit," Pristono said.
