Jakart (Antara) - The British government maintains recognition of Indonesia's sovereignty over Papua despite the opening of Free Papua Campaign office in Oxford, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Affairs Joko Suyanto said.
Minister Joko Suyanto in a statement here on Friday said the British government does not support Free Papua Campaign to open its head office in Oxford.
"So far the activities of Free Papua Campaign received no support from both the British government and opposition factions in Parliament as formally they continue to recognize Indonesian sovereignty over Papua," he said.
Joko dismissed report that Lord Mayor Oxford attended the opening of the head office of Free Papua Campaign.
"They have been known to concentrate their activities in Oxford, and now they said they have office in Oxford," he said.
He said, however, the Indonesian foreign ministry will summon British Ambassador Mark Canning in Jakarta to explain the position of the British government in connection with the Oxford report.
He said the Indonesian embassy in London will also ask for similar explanation from the British foreign affairs ministry. (*)
