Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said acute GERD was one of the considerations in placing former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas under house arrest.
KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu said on Tuesday that a health assessment showed Yaqut had undergone an endoscopy and colonoscopy.
"We inform that one of the results of the health assessment is that he suffers from acute GERD and has previously undergone an endoscopy and colonoscopy," Asep said in Jakarta.
Yaqut also has asthma.
"This is one of the considerations, aside from being part of the strategy to ensure the case proceeds smoothly," Asep said.
The KPK began investigating alleged corruption in the 2023–2024 hajj quota on August 9, 2025.
On August 11, 2025, the KPK estimated state losses at more than Rp1 trillion and barred three individuals from traveling abroad.
They are Yaqut, his aide Ishfah Abidal Aziz, also known as Gus Alex, and Maktour owner Fuad Hasan Masyhur.
On January 9, the KPK named Yaqut and Gus Alex as suspects.
Yaqut filed a pretrial motion at the South Jakarta District Court on February 10, 2026, but judges rejected it on March 11.
The KPK detained him at its detention facility on March 12, followed by Gus Alex on March 17.
On the same day, Yaqut’s family requested house arrest.
The KPK granted the request, and he was placed under house arrest on March 19.
On March 23, the KPK said it was processing a transfer back to detention.
A day later, Yaqut returned to the KPK’s Red and White Building to resume detention.
