Jakarta - Golkar Party, one of Indonesia's biggest political outfits, has vowed to make post-reform history by wining more than 30 per cent of votes in the next general election. Its general chairman, Aburizal Bakrie, said on Wednesday: "I am convinced by working as a unified unit, including in Java I Region, the political objective of creating a history of winning more than 30 per cent of votes would be achieved." He said this at the opening of a technical co-ordination meeting on winning the general elections of Java I Region, attended by 600 participants including regional board members and success teams. Golkar Party was runner up in the last general elections in 2009 after the Democrats Party. Aburizal, who is also popularly known as Ical, said based on a latest survey Golkar would win 18.9 per cent votes if the general elections were held today, surpassing other parties. The figure, he said, was well above the 14.45 per cent, the party won in 2009. "We are now seeking to achieve a second comfortable level by surpassing 21 per cent votes which Golkar won during the 2004 election, and are fighting hard to achieve more than 30 per cent in the next general elections in 2014 to make a new post-reform history,¿ he said. Ical said Java I Region that includes West Java, Banten and Jakarta is a prestigious region and a national barometer that would determine Golkar's victory and therefore their votes had to be won. "For that we must all work as hard as possible to make the regions yellow (the official color of the party) in 2014," he said.(*)
