Solo, C Java - The government of Japan will offer 140 scholarships for Indonesian students to study in Japan during the 2012 academic year, Japanese consulate spokesman Masa Kitani said here on Wednesday. "This year the government of Japan will provide 140 Indonesian students with scholarships to study in the country, and the applicants can register at the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta or at the appointed universities starting in April 2012," Kitani said after a meeting with Surakarta Mayor Joko Widodo. Kitani added that three universities in Solo, Surakarta Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Slamet Riyadi University (Unisri), and Surakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMS), would assist the government of Japan in issuing the scholarships. According to him, the 140 scholarships were set aside for students from throughout Indonesia, though these students would have to compete in S1, S2, S3 programs in all scientific disciplines. Further, Joko Widodo said that the scholarships provided a good opportunity for students in Solo to compete to study in Japan.(*)
