Banyuwangi (Antara Jatim) - The Banyuwangi district government in East Java is holding an Islamic Fashion Week (IFW) at the Muncar fish landing site.
Muncar was chosen as the venue for the event to promote it as the coastal area with the longest coastline in East Java, District Head of Banyuwangi Abdullah Azwar Anas said here on Tuesday.
"Muncar is also one of the largest fish landing sites in Indonesia," he added.
The Banyuwangi district government is committed to promoting local fashion, including Banyuwangi batik, at national and international levels through the Indonesian Fashion Week, which was held in Jakarta some time ago, as well as the Banyuwangi Batik Festival held in the district, Anas stated.
Today, Banyuwangi also wants to be known as an advanced district that always practices Islamic culture, he pointed out.
"We will always find ways to demonstrate the uniqueness of the district. Through the Banyuwangi IFW, we are looking forward to promoting Islamic culture, which is part of the daily lives of the people living in the eastern tip of the Java Island," Anas remarked.
Furthermore, Indonesia has now become a reference of world Muslim fashion, he noted, adding that local Muslim fashion designers will be able to "go national."
The IFW is part of a series of activities of the Banyuwangi Festival 2015. The event is the first Muslim fashion show that is part of the agenda of the festival.(*)
