Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The Surabaya city transportation office is seeking to cooperate with Airlangga University (Unair) in evaluating electronic parking systems with vouchers. The electronic parking system was part of efforts to avoid leakage of parking fees in the city, head of the Surabaya City Transportation Office Eddi said here on Monday. "The use of vouchers will make the payment of parking fees in the field more practical," he noted. The electronic parking system with vouchers will be optional, meaning that motorists still could pay parking fees by cash, he said. When the cash-based parking system was abolished, some motorists were confused while paying parking fees, he said. However, by applying the voucher-based parking system, motorists will find it more practical to pay parking fees in the field because they will be able to obtain vouchers according to their monthly requirements, he explained. The payment of parking fees will also use vouchers, so parking officers no longer need to provide change. "We have still not decided when the system will be implemented because it is still being studied," he noted. Under the voucher-based parking system, motorists are no longer required to possess small denomination banknotes to pay parking fees, he added. (*) Reported by Abdul Hakim
